Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to fill out an intake form?

On your first visit, we require you to fill out a fairly lengthy intake form that details your health history and reasons for seeking out therapeutic massage treatment. We’re required to do this, and it also gives our therapists the background information necessary to ensure that your treatment is optimized to your particular needs and preferences. As it can take upwards of 10 minutes to fill out this form, we encourage you to do so prior to your appointment. For first-time visitors, you’ll receive a link to this form the day before your scheduled treatment—try to fill it out in advance, so that it doesn’t eat into your scheduled time with your therapist!

Do I have to undress?

Not if it makes you uncomfortable. You will be covered by a sheet and blanket at all times, and your therapist will uncover one area at a time and then cover it again when they are finished. The therapist will always explain the treatment plan in detail, including what part of the body the therapist will be touching, and uncovering. If you are not comfortable with any aspect of the treatment, you can let the therapist know and they will adjust the plan to suit your comfort level. You’re always in control.

Are all of the treatments covered by my insurance?

All treatments offered are performed by Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) licensed and in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. If your employer offers medical benefits, there’s a good chance RMT services are included. We suggest contacting your health plan administrator to confirm prior to booking. Upon completion of your appointment, you’ll receive an RMT receipt that you can submit to the insurer for reimbursement.

I don’t have extended health insurance through an employer. Can I claim these treatments as an expense when filing my taxes?

You can! Massage Therapy is a tax-deductible medical expense, like Dental or Optometric services.

What is your cancellation policy?

The time slot allocated for your appointment is exclusively set aside for your benefit. If you happen to cancel or miss the appointment at short notice, it creates a gap in our therapists' schedule that could have accommodated another client. We therefore require a Credit Card to hold all bookings. Cancellation within less than 24 hours notice (48 hours for Couples and Groups) or missed appointments will be charged the full amount to the credit card on file. We appreciate your understanding.

What if I’m late for my appointment?

If you arrive late, your appointment will still conclude at the scheduled time. So, please do your best to be on time to ensure you get the most satisfying treatment possible. If you can call, text or email us if you know you’re going to be late, that will help to ensure that your therapist is able to make the most of the time remaining upon your arrival. If you’re over 30 minutes late, your appointment will be cancelled and your credit card on file will be charged the full amount. We appreciate your understanding.

Do you keep all of my information private?

As healthcare providers we take your privacy very, very seriously. The information you share on your intake form is confidential between you and your therapist. If another therapist is involved in your treatment, or if your therapist seeks out advice from one of their colleagues, they may share some details, but only among Terra’s other certified RMTs. If other practitioners operating outside of Terra are involved in your treatment and require any of your personal information (e.g. a physiotherapist), we would always get your express written consent prior to sharing any of your information with them.

I’m pregnant – is it safe for me to get a massage?

Yes, it is safe! All of our therapists are trained in pregnancy massage and understand the unique needs of those who are expecting. We offer specialized treatments, including a pregnancy lymphatic drainage massage, to help you feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Your comfort and safety are our top priorities, and our experienced therapists are here to ensure a soothing and beneficial experience.

What are my payment options?

We accept payment by cash, debit or credit card. Your RMT will issue a receipt for you to submit to your insurer or to claim on your taxes.

Will you submit the invoice to my insurance provider on my behalf?

No, but you’ll receive the receipt with all the information required by insurers via email upon payment.

Is there parking?

Parking around Yonge & Bloor is tough! There are spots under the Canadian Tire at 839 Yonge Street, and a handful of street spots available on Collier. We are conveniently located very close to both subway lines, though, which makes it very easy to avoid the snarl of traffic in this part of the city.

Is the space accessible?

Unfortunately it is not. We’re located on the second floor of a building without an elevator, with two flights of stairs to climb.

Is tipping required?

While it’s not required, it’s deeply appreciated. Our RMTs are highly trained and work hard, and if you’re delighted with your treatment, a tip is a great way to show it. And rest assured that 100% of it goes to your RMT.

Can I select my therapist by gender?

Certainly. It’s your body, and it’s your choice. You can specify the preferred gender of therapist when booking your appointment with no questions asked.
